The New England Lean Consortium is pleased to announce a Returning new member to the organization, Amgen Rhode Island. Amgen is a biotech company. Their site in West Greenwich, RI produces bulk drug substance for over 12 products including the rheumatoid arthritis drug, Enbrel and LDL cholesterol lowering drug, Repatha. In April of 2018, Amgen announced a plan to build a $160 million “next generation” biopharmaceutical plant at its campus in West Greenwich, R.I., a project the company said will add 150 skilled manufacturing positions and create about 200 construction jobs.
Amgen, based in Thousand Oaks, Calif., said Tuesday that the plant will be the first of its kind in the United States. A next-generation plant incorporates multiple technologies in a single facility and makes medicine using equipment that is portable, smaller, and disposable.
We are very pleased to have Amgen Rhode Island as a member of the NELC.
