Lean Leaders Meeting Admiral Packaging

January 31, 2020

The New England Lean Consortium kicked of the New Year with another successful Lean Leaders meeting at Admiral Packaging in Providence, RI, on January 31st. The meeting attracted nineteen attendees, many of whom returned to see what had changed since the last Lean Leaders Meeting of January 2019. For starters, the meeting was held in the newly renovated meeting/training space, complete with kitchen and employees lunch room.

The New England Lean Consortium held its September 2019 Lean Leaders Meeting at VIBCO Vibrators on Friday, September 20th. VIBCO Industrial Vibrators and Construction Vibrators are mechanical devices designed to generate vibration. VIBCO manufactures air (pneumatic), AC or DC electric, hydraulic vibrators and vibratory tables. “Our vibrators are used in hundreds of industries in thousands of different ways.”

6S Kaizen at Blow Molded Specialties

On June 18th, the New England Lean Consortium organized and helped to lead a 6S Kaizen at Blow Molded Specialties in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The employees themselves picked four areas that they felt were in need of a 6S kaizen.

Lean Leaders Meeting Admiral Packaging

The New England Lean Consortium kicked of the New Year with a most successful Lean Leaders meeting at Admiral Packaging in Providence, RI, on January 29th. The meeting attracted thirty four attendees and was one of the largest Lean Leader meetings of the NELC. Fortunately, Admiral Packaging had just created some space through the sale of part of its company, which allowed them to create a very large training/conference room.

Plant Tour: New Balance

The NELC is not so naïve as to think that all of the best practices in Lean reside in the members of the NELC. From time to time we visit companies that are recognized for their outstanding Lean programs and that are well down the road in Lean.

Continuous Improvement (CI) Day at Gemline

On June 26th , six members of the New England Lean Consortium were fortunate to attend the Annual CI Day at Gemline in Lawrence, MA. This is the third year in a row that I was privileged to attend CI Day at Gemline.

Lean Leaders Meeting at Legrand Wiremold

The New England Lean Consortium held its June 2018 Lean Leaders Meeting at Legrand Wiremold in West Hartford, CT, on Thursday, June 28th. This was a Member only meeting as Legrand Wiremold, is not a member of the New England Lean Consortium. The NELC recognizes that not all the best practices in Lean and Operational Excellence reside in the member companies. Therefore, we visit non-member companies that are considered Centers of Excellence, or companies that are well down the road on their Lean Journey. Legrand Wiremold was prominently mentioned in the book, “Lean Thinking” by James Womack and Dan Jones. At the time the company was Wiremold and since been purchased by Legrand of France.

The New England Lean Consortium held its May 2018 Lean Leaders Meeting at Wunderlich-Malec in Winslow, ME, on Friday, May 18th. Wunderlich-Malec opened its Winslow, Maine plant in September 2001 to provide Protective Relay and Control Panels for the Power market and Process Skids. In 2004 the business expanded to meet the needs of the Modular Integrated Control House market. Our engineering and systems integration skills provide added value to customers by designing innovative solutions that reduce costs and improve the quality of our Modular Solutions.

The New England Lean Consortium held its April 2018 Lean Leaders Meeting at Thermo Fisher in Franklin, MA, on Tuesday, May 2nd. This was a Members Only meeting as Thermo Fisher, Franklin, MA, is not a member of the New England Lean Consortium. The NELC recognizes that not all the best practices in Lean and Operational Excellence reside in the member companies. Therefore, we visit non-member companies that are considered Centers of Excellence, or companies that are well down the road on their Lean Journey. Thermo Fisher, Franklin, MA was one of the Plant Tours for the AME Boston 2017 Conference. It was rated as “Advanced” by the Plant Tours Committee, of which, I was Co-Chair, and highly rated by the people who went on the plant tour.

Lean Leaders Meeting at Rousselot

The New England Lean Consortium completed a very busy first half of 2017 with a Lean Leaders Meeting at Rousselot in Peabody, MA. Rousselot is one of the leading producers of Gelatin in the United States. The facility in Peabody is celebrating its 200th anniversary as a viable production plant. The plant was originally a producer of glue, and later re-purposed to a producer of gelatin.
